Justice and Reconciliation: From Henry Highland Garnet to Harvey Johnson
A free public screening and conversation exploring the enduring legacy of Black leadership, justice, and cultural repair.
In collaboration with the African American Department of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, join us for the official premiere of Justice and Reconciliation: From Henry Highland Garnet to Harvey Johnson. This free documentary screening will explore the lives and legacies of two pivotal Maryland figures who shaped national dialogue around self-determination and African dignity.
Rooted in historical research, the film delves into the enduring influence of Garnet, an abolitionist and preacher who became the first African American to give a sermon to Congress, and Johnson, a pioneering pastor and civil rights architect with the Brotherhood of Liberty.
They also attempted a cultural repair as Henry Highland Garnet led the African Civilization Society around the Civil War, and Harvey Johnson led the National Texas Purchase Movement after Reconstruction. Both organizations ensured the Black experience was included in the global community.
Reserve your seat today, and enjoy this important community event as we explore the meaning of justice and cultural repair.
